The brief was to design a kitchen and living space for a family of four and their Norfolk terrier. The property is an 1860s Grade 2 listed detached Victorian villa situated in a village in Sussex. The plot includes 6 acres of garden, orchards and paddocks.
They are an active family who enjoy sport, including running, riding, skiing, and tennis; as well as design and architecture. The two children are aged 2 and 3 and so activities often include messy baking, jam making, crafts and games. They love to spend time with friends and family and often have people to stay at the weekends.
The clients would like the design to include space for boots and coats, laundry facilities, lots of storage and comfortable seating. The clients’ style preferences are elegant and serene compared to their busy lifestyle. They want this new area to have a more modern feel than the rest of the house, but most importantly the space must be practical.
